Physical and Chemical Beneficiation of the Egyptian Beach Monazite

The Egyptian black sand deposits are present either as beach sediments or in the form of coastal sand dunes. This method has the advantage that the initial stage does not disrupt the procedure of rutile and zircon separation. However, the monazite rich fraction can not be concentrated to a salable grade solely by magnetic andseparation, a process that is controlled by the mineralogical characteristics of the deposit. Over the last few decades systematic work on the beach sand deposits of Sri Lanka has been carried out to study their distribution and mineralogy by the Geological Survey Department of Sri Lanka [8].
