Principles of Mine Detection by Ground-penetrating Radar

Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is a sensor which has a good potential for use in buried land mine detection. Compared to metal detectors (EMI sensors), GPR can detect both metallic and non-metallic objects, and has the capability of imaging the target shape. However, application of GPR to mine detection has suffered from many technical problems. The paper describes the results of research on the applicability of the ground penetrating radar (GPR) method for remote sensing and monitoring of the underground coal gasification (UCG) processes. The gasification of coal in a bed entails various technological problems and poses risks to the environment. Therefore, in parallel Sensing underground coal gasification by ground penetrating radar

Blasting injuries in surface mining with emphasis on flyrock

Results: During the 21-year period from 1978 to 1998, the mean yearly explosive-related injuries (fatal and nonfatal) for surface coal mines was 8.86 (95% CI: 6.38–11.33), and for surface metal/nonmetal mines 10.76 (95% CI: 8.39–13.14). Flyrock and lack of blast area security accounted for 68.2% of these injuries. The measurement results show that the 5 # coal seam is in the fracture zone above the gobs of four coal seams, and the caved zone of lower coal seam develops to fine sandstone of the 5 # coal seam floor. The ground penetrating radar has shown much promise in the detection of overlying strata movement.Overlying strata movement with ground penetrating radar
